Remember that heart-warming moment in Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, when Bill Murray’s character breaks into a smile as he has a muted, but animated conversation with an elderly Japanese woman in the waiting lounge of a hospital in Tokyo? Warm, fuzzy feelings and moments of joy, pain and elevation are what audiences can expect at a play slated to take place today.

The acclaimed Indo-German collaboration Boy with a Suitcase is set to enthrall Chennai’s theatre buffs. The drama focuses on the universal themes of nativity and migration while exploring ideas concerning the search for adventure, excitement and happiness in one’s life.
Director Andrea Gronemeyer says, “The performance encompasses many emotions. Intrinsic to its creation is the concept of urban life and migration. Every city in the world today, is home to millions who have come from foreign shores in pursuit of a dream of a better and more rewarding life. Many a time, it remains just that — a dream.”
Andrea says the story has been developed in a manner that appeals to both children and adults. “It’s a multi-layered parable. The kids can laugh at the funny bits, whereas there’s loads to think about and ruminate over, after you (the adults) have left the theatre and headed back home,” she signs off.
